An electric car takes up the same space on the road as a petrol or diesel car. The efficiency of mass transit is the ability to carry a lot of people in a small space.Are you thinking of autonoumous cars? Ones that drive themselves. Much of the testing has been undertaken using ordinary cars fitted with extra bits and pieces so, again, you do not gain any extra space. Well, maybe some space because the autonomous cars should be able to communicate with one another allowing reduced space between the cars.As things stand today I would invest in mass transit.

Once upon a time, when the words "power" and "electronics" could only be heard together as a beginning of a bad joke, electric-powered industrial machinery (my experience is with forklifts, mostly) was powered by DC motors.Those were sparky, full of brush dust and got their commutator worn down over time. Not to mention, brushes had to be replaced regularly, which had the potential to be a major PITA job. However, in the last 20 or so years, power electronics got to the point that DC to AC inverters became feasible - and cost effective - parts of such machinery. That enabled the use of AC motors, and they had a profound effect on how effective those machines are. AC motors have so many advantages for this use case over DC that I wonu2019t bother listing them. It was not killed, they just could not develop a car that met the demands of people. I believe that if you make a product that the people want that is within their price range, it will succeed. The electric cars developed were either under-powered or over priced. Simple capitalism.

A solar powered car, but it would be slow. i was thinking using an electric car where it charges for a solar powered generator. it would be ideal in places where there is lots of sunshine.

why dont we use electric cars?

Where I live there is not much available in the way of electric vehicles, and what is available is very expensive to buy and does not have much range. If I could find an electric car that could average 500 miles on a single charge while carrying 400kg of tools and equipment (what I do 2 or 3 times a week for work), has 4x4 and good ground clearance (I have to drive off road to get to various sites for work) and a good condition used electric vehicle that can be purchased for the price of a good condition diesel or petrol vehicle then I would go out and buy one today. Until then I will stick with my 20 year old 4x4.
