It was called metascreen and was made of a 66 micrometre thick polycarbonate film that supported an arrangement of 20 micrometer thick copper strips which looked similar to a fishing net. In the experiment that was carried out , when the metascreen was hit by 3.6 GHz microwaves, it re-radiated microwaves of the same frequency that were out of phase, cancelling out reflections from the object being hidden. This could have a lot of applications in radio communications, weather tracking and in health care. The material, called Quantum Stealth, is currently still in the prototyping stage, but was developed by the company's CEO Guy Cramer primarily for military purposes, to conceal agents and equipment such as tanks and jets in the field. Unlike traditional camouflage materials, which are limited to specific conditions such as forests or deserts, according to Cramer this "invisibility cloak" works in any environment or season, at any time of the day.Check out this video on Quantum Stealth:Other than these technologies, methods like spectral cloaking and active camouflage have also been developed. In spectral cloaking, light is not made to bend around the object, instead it shifts one spectrum of light to another and then shifts it back once it reaches the other side. If for example, we take the cup we mentioned before and shift the green light to another part of the spectrum that is not reflected by the object, say blue, then no light will be reflected and the object will not be visible. The device then shifts the green light back to reverse the process once the light reaches the other side. This method eliminates any kind of distortion that could be caused by bending of light around the object and hence is more effective. The cloaking device is constructed from two pairs of two commercially available electro-optical components. The first component is a dispersive optical fiber, which forces the different colors of a broadband wave to travel at different speeds. The second is a temporal phase modulator, which modifies the optical frequency of light depending on when the wave passes through the device. One pair of these components was placed in front of the optical filter while the other pair was placed behind it. This method of spectral cloaking could be applicable to securing data transmitted over fiber optic lines and also could help improve technologies for sensing, telecommunications, and information processing .It could also be used for selectively removing and subsequently reinstating colors in the broadband waves that are used as telecommunication data signals which could allow more data to be transmitted over a given link, helping to resolve impairments due to increased demand in data. In 2003, scientists at the University of Tokyo created a prototype active camouflage system that makes use of a material impregnated with retroreflective glass beads. The viewer stands in front of the cloth viewing the cloth through a transparent glass plate. A video camera behind the cloth captures the background behind the cloth. A video projector projects this image on to the glass plate which is angled so that it acts as a partial mirror reflecting a small portion of the projected light onto the cloth. The retroreflectors in the cloth reflect the image back towards the glass plate which being only weakly reflecting allows most of the retroreflected light to pass through to be seen by the viewer. This system works only when viewed from a certain angle. In conclusion, even though an invisibility cloak that could make objects, much less humans invisible has not yet been perfected, we are on the right track. Electric cars can be best if the problems are overcome but the science just is not there yet.— — — — — —Electric powered cars, what about electric powered RV's.?I believe the government is trying to banned the usage of electric vehicles— — — — — —What do think will be the near future best means of electric power for automobiles?In the near future I see a continuation of the same for "electric vehicles", e.g., Ni Metal Hydride (as in Toyota Prius) and lithium ion batteries that are the subject of intense research and very close to commercialization. I suspect that the market over the next 10-20 years will slowly gravitate to Plug In Hybrids for most cars or a system like GM's planned Volt system, e.g., an electric vehicle with an small on board electric generator that runs on gasoline (which to my surprise is actually VERY efficient compared to internal combustion engines with current drive trains). Everything else, e.g., fuel cells, etc., will take even more years to develop into an appropriate appropriate drive train. Although I suspect that any improved batteries or other electrical storage devices that have high energy storage to weight rations like "ultra capacitors" will be the next generation because they will simply offset batteries in the electric drive trains being developed now. BTW If you read the projections . in the near future electric vehicles and plug in hybrids or the volt system will NOT make significant inroads into the market and are expected to be less than 25% of the market for many years to come. I suspect that gas prices will level off somewhere about $5 per gallon and the US market will get used to it . plus there will also be increasing competition from ultra efficient diesel engines that Europe now uses. Its going to be a fun ride though.

Think of it. The India receives five trillion watts of energy from the sun in one year. "This is enough to generate all the electricity India would need in the next decade, even using solar modules with a modest conversion efficiency of 12%," points out S. Rajendran, consultant, solar-integrated power solutions. So, electricity supply shouldn't really be a problem in a tropical country like India. In fact, in many German cities, people sell the excess electricity they make from solar panels in their own homes to the state electricity grid!Generating electricity from solar energy is a simple process. Photovoltaic panels convert the solar energy from sunlight into electricity through the photovoltaic effect for feeding into the household electricity supply or into storage batteries.Wide rangeToday, it's not just cookers and heaters: there are a vast array of solar devices. Firms like Rekha enterprises, Solkar, Teltekh and others offer solar fans, home lighting systems, portable and emergency lanterns, garden lights, street lamps (ideal for apartment complexes), solar pumps for drawing water, specific UPS-inverter systems designed for houses, common areas, shops, restaurants, offices etc, and even solar power plants.In most cases, buying a solar device makes is a one-time investment, without recurring expenses. Dr. S. Balasundaram, who has gone in for a solar light-and-fan solar device, says, "I keep the solar panel in my balcony, and charge the light and fan during the day. Apart from the initial cost of Rs. 3,000, there has been no other expense." He adds, "I would like to go in for a total solar-powering up of my house, but the capital cost is prohibitive now. We need more subsidy."Likewise, V. R. Janakiraman, who bought a 100-litre capacity solar water heater 15 years ago for an effective cost of Rs.7,000, says, "I have hot water even at midnight as heat is retained for 48 hours. Over the years, I have got my money back several fold through savings in electricity consumption."Roof-top power plantToday, there are several rooftop solar power systems available in the market, which can power anything from lights and fans to the TV and computer, and even the fridge, depending on the system you go in for.The rooftop solar systems are eligible for capital subsidy. "On buying a one-kilowatt solar device that costs between Rs. 2.35 to 2.75, you can claim a reimbursement subsidy of 57 to 70,000 rupees from the Ministry of Renewable Energy, through Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA)," says S. Rajendran. Solar devices are eligible for bank loans and tax rebates too. Nandalala Seva Samithi Trust has been using a rooftop solar power plant for a year now. Its coordinator, C.S. Ravindran, says, "We now save about 25 per cent of electricity. Besides, it has ensured uninterrupted power supply. In the long run, the system is a great boon, but the reimbursement has to be made faster and smoother for attracting more users".Empowering the publicIf any building - homes, offices, or institutions capitalises on solar power, our electricity problems should vanish. In fact, many architects in the west are recommending that the entire roof be made into one huge solar panel with the proper orientation, to make the building largely independent of the electricity grid.Rooftop solar power systems to power common utilities can also be made mandatory for new buildings, the same way rain water harvesting was made mandatory to great effect. "A house or a building complex that takes a crore of rupees or more to construct can easily set aside a lakh of rupees for solar infrastructure," S. Rajendran adds, "If the government grants more subsidies for solar devices, power shortages will become redundant. It will be a case of empowering the people to power up."
