What Is Up with Tipping People Who Really Don't Deserve It?

In both of your examples, tipping would not be allowed. To tip the person at your insurance company, if that person did not refuse, that person could be fired for showing favoritism to you over all of their other clients. Same goes for that brain surgeon. Someone could think that by accepting your tip, your family member could come first over the person who has a massive brain aneurysm about to give. Are they both deserving? Sure. But you also have to look at the legal ramifications

1. How much tipping is required when staying in a hotel room?

i think it depends on the type of hotel 3stars up i think 50bucks is already enough.. too much it think.. and for 3 down, 20 bucks will do.. well, this is i only think..

2. What is you opinion on tipping?

I agree with yu most companies withhold money so they can keep it to themselves. I heard that from a couple diferent companise i worked for,

3. Does anyone have suggestions for a system for tipping that is not based on meal price?

Restaurants can be forced to pay a living wage like any other business and tipping can be done away with

4. Is tipping compulsary in the UK?

Tipping is never compulsory, just expected in certain situations. Many UK restaurants add a service charge to the bill so watch out for that - if you do not want to tip because you've had bad service, you are perfectly within your rights not to pay it. Perhaps you could call that a little sneaky. Many diners do not realise that they do not have to pay it and can write in their own amount if they pay by credit card. Tipping is not expected in British pubs and bars. Though there is a nice little custom where if you want to be nice to the barman or barmaid, you pay for an extra drink and say "have one yourself". They wo not because they would end up drunk while still working but they will keep the money as a tip. If you get to know them and it's a slow evening they might actually take it literally and pour themselves a drink too to have with you, though that's unlikely. Taxi drivers normally expect it, especially in London and you might get a foul look from a "black cab" driver if you do not . As a Londoner I usually do it in other cities and they seem pleasantly surprised. But then taking a cab in London IS a bit of a luxury as the public transport is so good. it's normal at barbers. I always leave an extra pound or two when I get my hair cut. The USA is definitely rather different. Waiters are very badly paid there and rely on tips to actually make a living, so it's virtually compulsory to leave at least 15% extra. As an accountant, I know a bit about the tax treatment of tips - they are taxable income and where a service charge is added to the bill, a "troncmaster" is supposed to collect and share out the tips, and account for income tax on them. If you want to make sure your tip goes directly to a nice waiter, you could not pay the service charge and give it to them directly in cash, and then it's up to them to account for it for tax. Nothing wrong with that as it's what you have to do with a taxi driver.

5. What do you guys think about tipping?

I usually dont tip when I am in that situation. If you feel the need to tip then just do 15% or less maybe 5% of what you paid. so if you bought maybe 3.75 for you coffee and muffin then 15% would be 56 cents. for a tip .

6. How much would a photo of Gordon Brown, furiously tipping a huge box of popcorn into his mouth, be worth?

The cost of the popcorn

7. Who are you tipping this weekend?

bulldogs dragons storms sharks broncos raiders roosters rabbits

8. What is your opinion of cow tipping?

its mean to tip a cow!

9. Where do you draw the line with tipping?

i never tip....and those people who work in toilets dont deserve a tip

Where Do You Draw the Line with Tipping?
I do not stay in hotels luxurious enough to tip. I do tip my hairdresser though, which I always thought was kind of weird1. tipping in USA?To answer most all of your tipping questions... please refer to the link below. It is very helpful in most all situations you will encounter. Have a polite day. Etiquette takes over where laws end.2. Are tipping expectations too high? No, it seems to be a fair system to me3. Why do some ethnic groups not believe in tipping their waitress?Unfortunately in some countries the tipping is not customary. They pay full salaries with benefits and all in other places. When outsiders come, they still think it is that way over here. I think the problem is that they do not know the rules and that sometimes they just ignore them. I noticed that most of the people that come from India or Mexico treat people that do a service almost like a slave. They want to be treated like kings and have no money to back it up. Most of the people in this countries have maids and they pay them almost nothing. Maybe next time you should try saying here is the bill and please note it does not include the tip. Maybe that would work4. Should tipping be banned in the foods and beverage industry?I agree with wendylil... raise the pay rate to minimum wage and do away with tips. I have degrees in Foof Service Management and Culinary Arts. What I have found is: The added costs to our food would be worth the savings from stoppage of the tip. Most waitstaff do not work for it as Vivacity suggests. They figure it as entitlement. He thinks that a tip is a bribe or reward for someone just doing their job. Hell, why do we not tip the grocery clerk or auto parts sales person too? Over the years the quality of service has got worse and the tip expectation increased. If you ask about wine or beer they do not have a clue. Ask if the sauce has dairy, they do not know. They make one return trip to your table one-minute after service to ask how the food is. But we have hardly had time to taste it. Later when you need something you must hunt them down. Many are just teenage kids or college students looking for a buck and not a career. Exceptions can be found in higher levels of service ("gourmet") restaurants. But this too is not always so. The added costs to our food would be worth the savings from stoppage of the tip. I had a discussion with a bartender (serving me beers) about tipping. I mentioned that cooks need to be tipped too. He said, "well you have choose your job." My reply to him is "yes, and you chose yours." He got no tip from me. Today, it seems everyone has their hands out for a tip just for doing their job. I say pay everyone minimum wage and go back to the old and actually better system of, T = To; I = Insure; P = Promptness.5. What is the caffeine tipping point to trigger a migraine headache? What is the caffeine tipping point to trigger a migraine headache?Caffeine typically helps a migraine or tension vascular headache and is sometimes a co- ingredient in medications intended for that purpose. In other words, caffeine is not considered a migraine trigger in any reasonable dose, at least for the vast majority. Caffeine withdrawal headaches are well known to occur, however. The effects of caffeine are extremely variable from person, so generalizations concerning dose or 'tipping points' may not be applicable for a specific individual6. What are your thoughts on tipping?Your tip was good. I usually tip 15%-20%. Since the waiter was very nice i would tip towards the 20% margin7. My Beta fish is tipping over and won't eat. What should I do?Bettas are notorious for being picky eaters. Flakes are not healthy for Bettas as they can cause digestive problems. I would try different foods until you figure out what he likes. Here are some suggestions based on what my Bettas (all in different tanks of course) seem to love: Frozen Brine Shrimp (Very nutritious and most Bettas love this) Frozen bloodworms (All Bettas love this as a treat) Frozen Daphnia Frozen krill Frozen mosquito Larve Sinking Algae Pellets Frozen, but microwaved in minced garlic peas (Peas helps digestive problems and garlic absorbs through and aids in immunity and appetite stimulation. I feed peas once a week to my Bettas so they stay healthy) Boiled fresh carrots (Good vitamins, again I feed once a week, though as they are primarily carnivores) Red shrimp or cooked shrimp (NO additives) Frozen Plankton Frozen Beef Heart Fresh mushed cucumbers Just try different things and find out what he likes. Bettas can starve to death, because they are such fussy eaters, unlike most other types of fish. Never feed freeze-dried, as it has no nutritional value and causes digestive problems. A diet of pellets is not really healthy for Bettas. They need a diverse diet and occasional fresh food to stay healthy and live 5 years, which they are capable of if given the right environment and diet. As for his problems, did you cycle the tank? Bettas need 5 gallons for many reasons, but one of the reasons being fish produce waste which can quickly build up to a fatal level in only a matter of hours or days and 2.5 gallons is not big enough to dilute their waste, unless you want to do 10% water changes every other day. They also need a soft filter and a heater and a 2.5 gallon is hard to filter properly. A heater would fluctuate too much in too small of a tank and cause stress and eventual death. A lot of people do Bettas in bowls or small tanks, but not more than a year and they are capable of living up to 10 years. But not in small tanks. The water chemistry fluctuates too much to keep them healthy. When you buy fish, you are basically maintaining the water chemistry and keeping that stable and healthy, which in turn will keep your fish healthy and live long. There is no simple solution to curing fish, which is why a cycled tank is a must, to prevent them from getting sick to begin with. You could try now to microwave a frozen pea in fresh garlic and shell the pea and mush it and feed it to him to see if his condition improves within the next couple of days. If your Betta does not like the pea, try sticking it on a toothpick and gently follow your Betta with it. Eventually after a minute or two, he will bite it. Some people claim their Bettas do not like peas, but every Betta I've ever owned loves garlic soaked peas. It builds their immunity and aids in digestion. Good Luck
